A ravioli cutter is a home kitchen
tool that you would use to cut your own raviolis out of dough. This would allow you to make
scrumptious ravioli at home without having to go out and buy it.
Ravioli cutters come in all kinds
of different varieties, all kinds of sizes, and for all different prices. Some are a few bucks,
while others are a lot more expensive. What role this ravioli cutter will be playing in your
kitchen should be a major indicator of how much you will spend.
Will you be using it in a
professional kitchen? If so, then you should perhaps invest in a higher-end model. If, however,
you are simply going to make your own pasta every once in awhile, then it is not such a bad
thing to purchase one of the more inexpensive models.
It would definitely
seem that all cutters will cut the ravioli, so paying more for a ravioli cutter is not really going to get you
more pasta, but rather will ensure that you get more use out of it for your money, than you would an inexpensive
one. Some of these cutters do eventually break, so how oftenyou use it
should be a huge consideration when you are planning to buy it.
The ravioli cutter is known by
many names, including ravioli stamp, ravioli press, or sometimes
ravioli wheel. Some even refer to them as ravioli makers, so clearly there is no consensus on consistent terminology!
There are different sizes available for the ravioli
cutters and presses, so this should also be taken into account. Will your ravioli be of the big variety, or will
it be mini-ravioli? Big ravioli stamp models usually only cut one piece at a time, while mini ravioli stamps can
often cut out like ten or so per use! However, it really just depends on what you like better.
Ravioli Cutter, Stamp,
Press Types
There are a couple different styles of the ravioli
press or cutter. First, there are the stamp-type cutters that are used to cut out a single piece of ravioli by
using the cutter in a stamp-like motion, much like it is a cookie cutter (as in the video below). These cutters
are very durable, are relatively inexpensive, and will do the job well.
There are also kinds that have simple wheels, more
like a pizza cutter. These take more practice, but can produce more customized results.
Then, there are the cutters that cut out entire
sheets at once. These might sound time-saving, but in actuality, they do not save as much time as you would
think they would.
All three of these cutters will serve you well, so
it really depends on which option sounds better for you. Since the stamp-type cutter is one of the most popular
styles out there, you could always try that one first. If you don’t like it, you could just move on to another
kind!
The major consideration on this decision is usage.
If you are working in a commercial-type of environment, then you are going to need a cutter that will take some
abuse. However, in a more domestic environment, a lower-cost ravioli cutter will do perfectly fine because it
will not be subjected to the amounts of stress like it would in a professional setting.
